ok, ok, i'll write
I'm waiting for something to happen at work (and I don't mean it's so boring I'm just waiting for anything to happen - I mean I'm in the e-mail equivalent of the state of being on hold). So, despite not having anything to write about, I figured I should write.
I just published a poem to www.primatescrewandbearing.blogspot.com. No, this is not an advertisement. It's just that I have a theme running through my mind right now, and it's always odd to realize you can't say everything you want to say in one piece. So I have these leftover images. Might as well record them here for the future, I suppose.
I'm playing with the idea of internal versus external experience. In this case it has to do with language, or the failings of language. Interesting tool, using language to show its own shortcomings. I'm not positive I haven't contradicted myself. I feel a catch-22 coming on. I'll back away.
The images I'm left with, unused, have to do with the way mushrooms seem to appear out of nowhere in the forest after a rainstorm. Beautiful, alien colors and shapes. And later the same day they're gone again. This happened in our little city back yard after we planted hostas, ferns, etc, so I guess the mushrooms felt at home - a good sign. Then there's the idea of the discrete versus the... analog? Damn. See, that's why I didn't use that one yet. Can't find the right words. Like a digital versus an analog clock. Like a record versus a CD. What's missing in between the ticks, the samples. Recently (ok, always) I've been drawn to images that contrast natural with man-made, growth with decay. I think it's the boundary/transition space idea coming back up.
That's it for now, while I go find some coffee to fuel my evening - assuming what I have planned here at work is even going to happen. Damn tech support.
